The origins of Le Petit Funghi…
The face behind Le Petit Funghi is me, Lisa. I’m based in the East Midlands, UK and I am truly happiest when I’m outside, working with and in nature, growing vegetables and flowers, and foraging.
As a child, I hated mushrooms, yuk. The taste, smell and texture really wasn’t appealing to me and I went through my childhood years keeping my distance from all things funghi.
I then started foraging in my early adult years and this changed everything. I developed an interest in mushroom identification and this naturally progressed to adding them to my diet.
Following an eye-opening foraging course a very long time, I continued to develop my interest in this area, especially finding out more about the different types of mushrooms and their various uses.
I tried to entice family and friends to share my (literal) blooming interest in this area by gifting them mushroom growing kits, all to varying levels of success. Whilst they didn’t seem to develop an interest in mushrooms as much as I did, it set off a lightbulb in my head about growing my own mushrooms at home on a slightly larger scale, all for my little family’s own consumption.
News of my mushroom growing ‘project’ spread and before I knew it, family and friends were asking me for bags of mushrooms to their personal use.
The feedback I received was so positive and encouraging that it was only natural to take this further. Before I knew it, I’d created a low tech mushroom farm to cater for the growing demand my little project had created.
And this is how Le Petit Funghi bloomed into life.
